The Math department now offers five prizes each year to outstanding undergraduates. The prizes are presented at the graduation ceremony for Math majors.
The E.E. and E.J. Decou Prize is awarded every year to the undergraduate who is judged the most promising student in Mathematics. The Decou Prize has been awarded every year since 1947-48. The award is named for the first chairman of the Math department, Edgar E. Decou, and is also a memorial to his son. The names of the students who have received this prize are engraved on a plaque in the math department office. This year's winner is Marissa Beck. She will receive $1500.
The Frank E. Wood Memorial Scholarship is awarded to the continuing student(s) judged to be the most promising by the Math department. It was established in 1972 in honor of Dr. Frank E. Wood who was a professor of Mathematics at the university from 1943 to 1954. There are two winners this year: Eric Boyd and Melissa Johnson. They will each receive $250 .
