STUDYING IN SWEDEN:  WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE SOME TIME AND WANT A MATH DEGREE

So, you might ask yourself, I'm through with two years of calculus, differential equations, linear algebra and I really wanna spend some time overseas. Where, you would say, might I find a program that could let me do something like that?  Well, my friend, look no further than Uppsala University (a location that this author is planning on spending all of next year attending).  The wonderful thing about this program is the large number of upper division math courses available IN ENGLISH that are readily applied to your major requirements when you return.  From upper division abstract algebra, to differential geometry, all the way to number theory and above, you'll find what you need to fill in the four upper division courses you want to finish your major.  Considering there are FIFTY-TWO courses that can be taught in English (upon request), it's something to consider if you've got a year or two left in school and you really want a new and different experience. Not only that, but if you're in the math education program and want to get a head start in some of your education requirements, Uppsala has classes in high school teaching readily available.  (Admittedly, these courses specialize in the Swedish education system, but you never know where you'll learn some essential skill that makes you teacher of the year.)
The living experience is, as I am told, an excellent one.  Every person is put up in their own room (no roommates!) with their own bathroom (shower included!).  You'll have to share a kitchen (which means dishes can't sit in the sink forever, sigh) but it should be quite a step up from the dorm accommodations of the U of O.
Things in Sweden are a bit expensive.  Considering a few years ago, the exchange rate was 10 SEK (Swedish Crowns) to the dollar, and now the exchange is about 7 SEK per George Washington coupled with the fact that prices in Sweden haven't decreased with the fluctuating exchange means I'll probably be eating a lot of Top Ramen next year.  But since Sweden is

right on the ocean, they have readily available, fresh, amazing seafood and some of the best dairy products you've never eaten.
So think about it, won't you?  Instead of spending your tuition at U of O, send it to the Swedes!  They need it to fund their socialist government.  Plus, you'll be getting an excellent education, you'll meet interesting new people, and Amsterdam is just a short plane flight away.
Uppsala University:  it's for Math majors!
