MATH
PEERS
HERE

by Jeff Williams

Josiah's favorite math class so far at the U. of O. was the second term of Linear Algebra (Math 342) with Professor Dyer.  "That class provides a basis for powerful proofs," Josiah says.  One of his first general pieces of advice for undergraduates is: "Study in large groups so if one person doesn't know how to do something, another might."  Josiah can be found most days in the Hilbert Space; his specific office hours include Tuesdays 12:00-1:00 and Thursdays 11:00-1:00. Jason Zaklan is a senior math major in the pure-math concentration.  He is a non-peer advisor, but still hangs out in Hilbert Space. His fondness for  Hilbert Space stems from his belief that "you can talk freely and openly with other people who are also willing to share their views."  Jason's favorite classes have included Combinatorics (Math 456) with Math Professor Kantor, Linear Algebra with Math Professor Dugger, and Existentialism with Professor Davies in the Philosophy Department.  Jason can usually be found in Hilbert Space most Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
Best of luck in all studies! Stop by for good, clean math fun!!!

Welcome to all folks on campus, particularly to those with an interest in mathematics.  As your undergraduate peer advisors, we look forward to another year of study, communication, and learning in Deady and Fenton Halls.  We hope everyone is feeling well, halfway through fall term, 2003. We also hope that we, in the Hilbert Space, will be able to help all comers.
Whether you want advice on your math studies, your course selection for the math major or minor, or your university requirements, please don't hesitate to find your way into the Hilbert Space in 107/108 Deady Hall! The peer advisors continuing from last term are Jeff Thompson, Jaime Wren, Amanda Stout, Ted Argo, Cassandra Aanderud, Gabe Amos, Shawn Foster, Zack Almquist, and myself. A new face peer-advising this academic term is Josiah Thornton.  Josiah is a sophomore math major from McMinnville.  He enjoys the "nice, brisk breezes that float through the tall windows [in Hilbert Space] and the counterweights that actually seem to work to keep the windows open."
