MATH PEERS HERE

by David Jordans

Welcome back to everyone on campus; especially all you eager, up and coming young mathematicians!  As this fall term gets speedily on its way, the UO math peer advisors wish you all a great semester, and hope to see many of you in advising.
Whether you're seeking advice on selecting courses, needing help balancing U of O credit requirements, or are just wondering what that unpleasant smell is, just come visit us at 107/108 Deady, and we'll do our best to answer your queries. It's a really great opportunity to get advice from fellow students about their experiences in the department, and their assessment of courses.  It can be a great supplement to the official course info put out by the faculty.  We can also give advice on finding math study abroad programs (e.g. Hungary, U.K., Russia, and Pennsylvania) and internships, which are awesome.
Peer advising hours are posted in 107 Deady, but one can count on finding an available peer advisor pretty much anytime 9-3 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday without an appointment.

The long list of continuing peer advisors includes Zack Almquist (this guy really knows his stuff!  Seek him out for any requirement-type

questions), Josiah Thornton (his parents are rich), Jaime Wren (his aren't), Jamie Curtis (yes THAT Jamie Curtis), Lauren Wiener (who always gets her articles in early, I'm told), Crissy Jo Serviss (Go Air Force!),  Nathan Wonder (let's be honest - I've never actually seen this kid…), Jeff Lamb (him either), Eric Boyd (who also has a major in screenwriting from USC), Nathan Collins (who is self proclaimed "better than David Jordan"), and last but certainly not least, me, David Jordan!

There is one new peer advisor this term. His name is Gordon Honerkamp-Smith (hyphenated-guy). He is a transfer from Chemeketa Community College.
Best of luck friends, and be sure to stop by for some good clean math fun!
