An analyst, Barnes works on Banach algebras and operator theory. The author of over 50 research articles in analysis, Barnes is currently doing work on the theory of Fredholm operators. In addition to directing several Ph.D. theses, Barnes has held research positions in Scotland, India, Ireland, and Greece.
